Why is there a limit for number of teams in each category?
The purpose of Gothia Cup is to create a meeting place for youths - irrespective of religion, skin color or nationality of the participants. The original idea was that everyone would be placed in school accommodation and creating the main meeting place in the schools. The majority still stays in school accommodation but we decided to offer alternative accommodation options. Clubs that have for example an exchange where they visit another club should be able to do this during Gothia Cup.
Furthermore, Gothia Cup aims to be the most international tournament in the world. To maintain this, we have to make sure no individual country significantly dominates. No team should have to meet another team, usually played in the regular season.
